Preuit, Titans off to hot start

The Toll Gate boys soccer team surged past visiting Paul Cuffee/Times2 Academy last week 11-2 to improve to 2-0 on the year.

The Titans’ offense rolled throughout the contest and was led by junior Aiden Preuit, who scored a whopping seven goals. Preuit has jumped out to an impressive start this fall and also put up two goals in the team’s 3-0 opening day win over Scituate.

“When Aiden is in the game, his mind is right, the sky’s the limit for him. We knew that we could have this production from him, but it was up to Aiden,” said first year Toll Gate coach Jason Melo.

The Titans also got a pair of goals from senior Ryan Dacey, who also scored in the opener, as well as goals from Tyler Carpenter, Michael Pella-Sabourin and Greg Lalibete.

The Titans would force breakaways throughout the contest and dominated the midfield to set up its forwards.

“Aidan does a really good job of getting open. We utilize him the best that we can and that’s the result we were able to get, we got seven goals out of him. We preach working from the back to the front, everybody has to contribute on our offense and defense. We like to work from the back to the front, win the possession, and when we do that, these are the results that we expect,” said Melo.

The Titans are looking to continue their momentum and improve on their 2021 season where they won just two games. Staying focused and applying what they learn at practice will be the key, according to Melo.

“That’s the tricky part, but they know that they don’t want to have the season they had last year. They know what they want, they know what I want, they know how they have to approach it. They need to play at a different level and do what they do at practice. That’s what it comes down to,” said Melo, who is excited to get off on the right foot this fall. “In my first year, to be 2-0, I could not have asked for a better start. Now we just need to continue to get better and string together (more wins).
