To the Editor,
The old medium security ACI building will be torn down in order to build a Cosco Store. That ACI building was dedicated to Donald Price, a black prison guard who was murdered while on the job in 1973. Inside the building is a plaque dedicated to Officer Price as well as an engraved entrance that bears his name.
I contacted the Mayor, Ken Hopkins, and he said that he will request that Cosco provide a memorial for Officer Price. However, I am worried should this actually happen. Many Correctional Officers, as well as the Black Lives Matter movement and all who care for the memory of Office Price, may not approve a memorial provided by Cosco. Since the original building is the only one named after a black man, they may take the position that a memorial through Cosco would be disrespectful.
