RIBCA reveals award winners

The Rhode Island Basketball Coaches Association recently unveiled its postseason honors and plenty of locals made the cut.

Bishop Hendricken’s Azmar Abdullah was named the Player of the Year, while teammate Eze Wali was named to the All State First Team. Johnston’s Derek Salvatore made the All State Second Team, while teammate Anthony Corsinetti was named to the third team.

Wali was named the state tournament MVP while Hendricken’s Mike Paquette made the All Tournament team. Abdullah and Wali were named to the Division I First Team while Salvatore and Corsinetti made the Division II First Team.

Cranston West’s Jaymien Aponte and Anthony Veltri were named to the All League First Team along with Salvatore and Corsinetti. Johnston’s Neari Vasquez, West’s Marcus Chung and Toll Gate’s Jackson Cehelsky made the All-League Second Team.

Cranston East’s Naz Milien made the All League team along with Abdullah and Wali while Paquette, Devin Lynch and Matt Brock made the All League Second Team. East’s Da’Qwon Foster also was named to the second team.
