The Rhode Island Interscholastic League Indoor Track & Field Class Championships were held last weekend in Providence and several locals made some noise. Here is a look at some of the results from the event:
GIRLS
Cranston West’s Reece Vitale won the 55 hurdles and later took third in the long jump for the Falcons.
Keaney Bayha won the 3,000 meter run and the 600 run for Pilgrim and later took second in the 1,500. Toll Gate’s Vanessa Jones won the weight throw
BOYS
Cranston West’s Ryan Stoloff took third in the 300 dash
Jack Moretta won the 3,000 meter run for Bishop Hendricken while Colby Flynn took first in the 1,500. Toll Gate’s Kevin Barker took first in the high jump event and Pilgrim’s Brandon Wolfenden won the shot put.
BJ Kerachsky finished second in the 3,000 run for the Hawks, while teammate Elijah Guertin took second in the 55 hurdles. Hendricken’s Fred Russell placed second in the 1,500 and Flynn finished second in the 1,000 run. Kayson Kong took second in the shot put for Hendricken. Johnston’s Jayden Ponte took second in the Class B shot put.
Hendricken’s Jabari Jackson took third in the 55 dash and Moretta placed third in the 1,500. Russell later took third in the 1,000 run and Wolfenden took third in the weight throw. Pilgrim’s Hunter Schobel took third in the long jump.
Kerachsky took fourth in the 1,500 for Hendricken and Aidan Brindle took fourth in the 600 for the Hawks. Okah Wali finished fourth in the high jump for Hendricken while teammate Dimitri Johnston took fourth in the weight throw, and Nathanel Tarlue finished fourth in the long jump.
Ben Williamson took fifth in the 55 hurdles for the Hawks while teammate Rylan Barbato took fifth in the 600. Hendricken’s Arion Amoruso finished fifth in the shot put for the Hawks while Ethan Charnley placed fifth in the weight throw.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Bay View 56, West 36
The Falcons fell to the Bengals last week in a Division I showdown. Kyla Buco led the team with 16 points scored in the loss.
East Providence 45, East 16
The Thunderbolts fell to the Townies on Monday night. Isabella Dupret led the Bolts with 10 points scored.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Pilgrim 57, West 44
Jake Anzivino led the Falcons with 12 points in their loss to Pilgrim last week. Erick Whitlock and Nate Conca each scored nine points in the loss.
BOYS HOCKEY
BVS 3, Cranston 2
The Falcons dropped a tough loss to Blackstone Valley Schools last weekend.
Jacob Bovay and Jack Fontaine scored goals for Cranston while Aidan Fowler recorded an assist. Bryce Crance stopped 23 of 26 shots faced.
The team beat South Kingstown 4-1 the previous night. Bovay finished with two goals while Devin DeAngelis scored a goal and three assists. Grant Bailey picked up a pair of assists as well. Crance made 17 stops in net to earn the win.
