Brick wall falls on Bluff Avenue

A brick façade on the eastern side of the building at 185 Bluff Ave. collapsed early Friday morning, with strong wind gusts likely playing a factor, according to emergency officials.

Fire Chief James Warren said no injuries or other damage resulted from the incident, which occurred at around 6:45 a.m. Gas and electricity had been turned off during the initial response due to safety concerns, he said, although he believes the structure had been inspected and residents were allowed back inside.

Warren said the owner of the building was aware of the issue with the brick façade and had already arranged for an engineer and mason to address the situation. City building officials had also been notified and the parking lot area around the façade had been cordoned off.

“It was bound to happen, we just didn’t think it was going to happen two days later,” he said of the collapse.
