The RI Hospitality Association (RIHA) presented Michael Sabitoni of Cranston and associate professor and department chair, food and beverage and travel and tourism studies at Johnson & Wales University with the RI Hospitality Education Foundation (RIHEF) Chairman’s Award at the 2024 ANCHORS Awards, held at Bally’s Lincoln. The RIHEF Chairman’s Award celebrates individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to advancing hospitality education and workforce development.

Sabitoni has dedicated his career to shaping the next generation of hospitality professionals. His commitment to education, innovation, and community engagement has made an indelible impact on the industry and its future leaders.

“Michael Sabitoni’s dedication to fostering talent and bridging the gap between education and the hospitality industry is unparalleled,” said Farouk Rajab, RIHA President and CEO. “From mentoring students to spearheading groundbreaking programs, his contributions exemplify the mission of our Education Foundation, and we are honored to celebrate his achievements.”

Sabitoni has hosted countless career and technical education students and their teachers at Johnson & Wales for tours and demonstrations, providing invaluable insights into the hospitality world. He has also volunteered his time and expertise for high school competitions and student career conferences, ensuring young professionals are well-prepared for success. Notably, he coordinated a specialized “boot camp” for students needing additional training to excel in RIHA’s competitions.

Beyond his role at Johnson & Wales, Sabitoni serves as a liaison between the university and Rhode Island’s hospitality industry, fostering collaboration and innovation. His international perspective, grounded in years of travel, enriches his work and inspires those around him. A frequent speaker and consultant, Sabitoni’s expertise is sought after both locally and globally.

Sabitoni resides in Cranston, RI, with his wife, Dr. Karen Silva-Sabitoni, and their rescue puppy, Casside. He holds multiple degrees from Johnson & Wales University, including an M.S. in Hospitality Administration, and is a Certified Hospitality Educator.
