MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 3
* * ½
(Thin Sequel)
Nia Vardalos wrote a great first movie which lost some of its charm in the sequel.
While number 3 has lots of charm and makes a great travelogue, the plot is thin.
The patriarch of the huge and loving Greek family has died (Unfortunately, Michael Constantine, the actor who played him died in real life.)
The Portokalos family decides to pay tribute to him by visiting his home village, throwing a big reunion, and passing his journal on to the remaining residents.
If you stay for the credits (few do), you will be amazed how many actors with Greek names have been cast in the movie.
The scenery is awesome. The display of Greek food will have you running for your favorite Greek restaurant. The characters are lovable.
It is all very nice, but not much happens.
They discover a long-lost brother. Toulas (Vardaolos) daughter Paris renews her interest in Aristotle, and yes, there is yet another big fat Greek wedding, combined with a festive reunion.
Everyone lives happily ever after, at least until the fourth Big Fat Greek Wedding.
