Seeking new outlet, Nate Jones finds 'Permission to Create'

If you read us on a regular basis, then you know that we’ve fully documented Warwick native Nate Jones’s talents as a musician.

It turns out that he’s more than just a guy who strums a six-string while singing his heart out for folks who are looking for something fun to do at a local establishment. He’s also a wellness coach through the organization Mind-Body Harmony, and now you can add “aspiring author” to his skill set.

Jones is currently working on a book called “Permission to Create,” which includes songs, lyrics and stories about his journey through life as a musician while exploring his thoughts, feelings and deliberations. The book’s target release date is this coming August, but to cover costs, he’s currently raising $5,000 through an Indiegogo campaign that’s going on until the end of April.

Jones started writing this book as a way to pass the time indoors during the current situation with COVID-19. While he misses the genuine positive feeling live music can bring, he began this endeavor as another outlet for his creative output.

“I wrote this book because like many artists, the COVID-19 pandemic greatly impacted my ability to earn a living doing what I love,” Jones says of the story behind the book on the Indiegogo page. “People can’t go out to see live music, and musicians and performers of all kinds are really hurting financially, but it’s not just the financial aspect. For so many artists, live events and community are what nourishes their soul. They help inform our identity and sense of connection. Since I cannot earn money and express myself in the way I am used to, I decided to use my newfound free time to write this book.”

He adds: “I am embracing my role as a storyteller, as someone who conveys vital information to the rest of the tribe through my own experience and creative expression. I believe we have unlimited potential as human beings and in this book I share my experiences of personal growth, triumph and healing. I wanted to show fellow artists, musicians and creative people that all hope is not lost and our creativity must now flourish in new and exciting ways. Additionally, fans deserve to understand the process behind songwriting, and see how their favorite artists become inspired to create.”

Jones’s primary goal with the book is to inspire and motivate others to seek out their own ambitions, and he wants his work to be a reason for people to carve their own path.

“My hope is that, in reading these stories and listening to my music, you will discover your own creative potential,” Jones says. “I want you to see this book as an opportunity to engage with your personal artistry, whether that be music or another art form. Why? Because just like me, you possess the innate potential to be whatever you want to be in life. I chose the title ‘Permission to Create’ because I want people to know that they don’t need anyone else’s permission to express themselves creatively.”

As of press time, the Indiegogo campaign had raised over $3,000. Along with a copy of the book, various donation amounts come with different rewards. These include a “thank you” video, a personal note, a 90-minute coaching call, a day in the recording studio, a personal concert and a VIP fan experience.
