To the Editor,

This is an anecdote in the spirit of John Howell’s recent column and reader Lonnie Barham’s subsequent letter.

Some years ago my wife, Martha, received a nearly unique birthday gift from her son, Michael: a trip to Paris!

With Michael as her guide, Martha’s tour one day included the Louvre.  As they descended a beautiful staircase, with a sitting area against one wall, she stopped Michael, saying “Michael, wait; I know that man there; he’s from Rhode Island!”  “Oh, come on Mom, that can’t be. Let’s not embarrass ourselves in the Louvre.” “No, I am sure of this.”

Martha approached the gentleman, “Pardon me, sir, aren’t you from Rhode Island?”

“Yes, I am.”

“I knew it. I voted for you!”

“Oh! You’re the one!”

Classy guy, Bob Healey.
