Cranston West Theater, with a cast and crew of over a hundred ninth through twelfth grade students, will be performing their own local production of the Tony Winning Show, “Bye, Bye Birdie.” This musical, with book by Michael Stewart, music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Lee Adams, and originally produced by Edward Padula, has been adapted into film, TV-movie, and a Broadway revival.

In the fictional world of Birdie, inspired by Elvis Presley, every teen’s dream is rock ‘n’ roll sensation, Conrad Birdie, who’s about to go into the Army. His agent sees this as an opportunity for major publicity and arranges for the star to get a goodbye kiss from one lucky girl on The Ed Sullivan Show. Soon, Birdie’s arrival in the small-town home of the winning girl makes unexpected waves in the lives of its residents. Set in the 1950s, the musical score features such tunes as “How Lovely To Be A Woman,” “Telephone Hour,” “Put On A Happy Face,” “A Lot of Livin’ To Do” and “One Last Kiss.”

All general admission tickets are $12. For ticket information, visit http://chsw-theater.weebly.com under the ticket sales tab or visit https://chsw.booktix.com to directly purchase tickets.
