THE LAST SHOWGIRL
* * *
(Bittersweet Tale)
Pamela Anderson proves to be an Oscar contender with her bittersweet performance as an aging Vegas showgirl faced with the realization that in two weeks her show closes and she will be out of a job.
“I am a dancer.” She proclaims to all who will listen. The problem is that her interpretation of “dancer” is different than most.
She is the mother figure in a group of diverse showgirls who dress in garish costumes and wigs and show a lot of skin.
She has been doing this for 28 years, sacrificing her marriage and relationship with her college-age daughter, who has never seen her perform.
You may see a connection between the “Baywatch” star and her role as the naïve showgirl who wonders what will happen to her after the show closes.
She finds solace in the former dancer-turned-cocktail waitress played by Jamie Lee Curtis and offers solace to two young dancers.
It is an interesting study of a wman filled with doubts and regreta, who still sees herself as offering her limited talents to the world.

(Remake of Classic Horror Film)
I still remember seeing the 1922 classic at the Avon years ago and give credit to a decent attempt to recapture the eerie mood.
The story line is the same--Vampire is obsessed with beautiful young woman.
But it is over 100 years later, and the eerie techniques have been improved, a little nudity has been added, and of course we must see some blood.
Bill Skarsgard makes a convincing vampire with his bald head, fangs and ugly features.
If you can take yet another vampire movie, this is one of the more authentic ones.
