Thank you, Doug, for laying out the scope of these projects and the impact they will have on the city. However, the destruction of these lands is being done not for "clean energy" but for a quick and dirty buck by big energy companies who will sell the electricity produced to National Grid for a high price. National Grid and other power suppliers are REQUIRED to purchase a portion of their energy from renewable sources, and Cranston has thrown the door open for these energy outfits to meet that need for the maximum profit. Cranston has given up its agricultural and rural birthright for a mess of pottage; with no regulations, fast approval of plans with no concern for the public or abutting properties, and a planning department that flouts the Comprehensive Plan, we have given carte-blanche to these monstrous industrial solar arrays that will forever change the character of our city and give us nothing in return. There are no jobs, no clean, inexpensive energy for Cranston, and we face a permanent loss of open space, forest and farmland which can never be returned to their previous states. One can only wonder who in our city DOES benefit from this give-away.
