After reading this article, I wish both candidates the best of luck; however, there was one part that surprised me and it was the conditions of the fields on the east side of the city. I was on the Board of Edgewood South Elmwood Little League/Cranston East Little League for 20 years and President for 7 years (2009 - 2015). I believe Tony Liberatore was the DPR for all those years so I can make an informed statement of fact(s). During that period, I never had a problem with the neglect of any of our fields and that included 5 fields before the merger and 8 fields the year (2015) of. As long as the DPR knew when the kids needed the fields, the fields were always ready. I had to work closely with the DPR during two significant events: The great flood of 2010 and the merger of the 3 little leagues on the EAST side of the city in 2015. In both instances, there were open lines of communications between our community and the DPR who was always available. I can't tell you how many times Tony Liberatore would say, "just tell me what you need". During my 7 years as President neither I nor anyone on my Board felt like we were getting "the short end of the stick" when it came to the dedicated volunteers who supported CWLL. It was a non-issue. My voice and opinion was just as important as anyone who headed a league in the city and Tony made it that way.. Fay Field was the hidden pearl where every kid from 13 - 16 in the state who knew about the field wanted to play there. Did dedicated volunteers within the league do the "bells & whistles"? No doubt, but the DPR Office always did the core. Disgruntled reply? During my tenure, I called him on a Saturday, Sunday, and even when he was on vacation! Was he happy about it? Nooo. Did he always agree with me? Not really. Did he ever turn me away? NEVER! So what happen,? I have my opinion, but like I said I'm only stating what I know and what I have seen, and the thought of that office intentionally neglecting the fields ANYWHERE in the city of Cranston........It's just not in Tony's DNA . There's a saying, "when you point the finger at someone, there's always three pointing back at you" Chris surfaced a perceived problem that needs attention and to be corrected BY BOTH SIDES. Because in the end the only ones who pay the price are the kids that play on those fields.
