If the rumor is true, horrible to see nepotism . You would think the new Mayor would be interested in keeping the optics clean. But I think we can agree a Chief from outside the department is probably in the best interest of the city & fire department. Let's get through this scandal & begin rebuilding the trust between the taxpayers, city government & the fire department. I have to believe a lot of highly qualified candidates wouldn't be interested in coming to a scandal plagued city. My hope was that a highly qualified & respected retired Chief from another Rhode Island city would come in as a caretaker for 18-30 months. Meanwhile the city could search for a candidate that would be a long term solution.

Whoever the new Chief is I wish them the best of luck.
