One of the two Cranston High School East teams that competed this past weekend in the FIRST Tech Challenge held at the New England Institute of Technology was named for its captain, Patrick Wynn. A total of 56 middle and senior high school teams registered for the competition to inspire an appreciation of science and technology in students through the use of robotics, from which 33 made it to the finals. Wynn, a senior, and other members of the team put their own money into buying many of the components needed to make their robot. Above, East robot driver freshman Patrick Gibb and Wynn make adjustments to their robot. At left, coach Al Hurst joins the team for a group photo. (Herald photos)
