Cranston Police, Fire unite for 5K

For the third year in a row, Cranston first responders are joining together for the “Hot on Your Heels 5K” at Garden City Center.

The event, which includes a kid’s fun run and a 5K road race that starts and ends at Garden City on Sunday, Oct. 22, benefits the Jim Logano Foundation and local YMCAs, aiming to help children through funding academic, art, sports and wellness programs.

The Cranston Police and Fire Departments are putting on the race for their city, joining together to meet with members of the community and support a worthy cause.

“It’s a great opportunity for everyone to come out and support a good cause,” said Major Todd Patalano of Cranston PD. “Residents can meet many members of the police department and first responders. There will be some interaction after the event as well.”

The event itself starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Gazebo in Garden City with the kid’s fun run, while the 5K starts just ten minutes later at 9:40. Registration can be done online or in person on Friday from 4-6 p.m. at Lululemon, Saturday from 4-6 p.m. at New Balance, or Sunday morning at the Gazebo starting at 7 a.m.

While registration costs $25 for the 5K and $10 for the kid’s race, the money mostly goes to the foundation. There is, however, cash prizes for the winners of the race, including $150 to the overall best male and female finisher.

The departments encourage all Rhode Islanders to come out and support the Logano foundation while getting in some exercise Sunday morning, as well as meeting local police and firefighters.
