Man with gunshot wound found at Pontiac Avenue home; investigation ongoing

Posted

A man with a gunshot wound was found at a Pontiac Avenue home early Thursday morning, according to Cranston Police, and an investigation of the incident remains ongoing.

A statement from Maj. Todd Patalano indicates officers responded to 1012 Pontiac Ave. at 3:10 a.m. In the home’s basement, police found a man in his 30s with a gunshot wound in the area of his upper chest and shoulder.

According to the statement, the man – who was not identified – was undergoing surgery at Rhode Island Hospital as of late Thursday morning. His injuries are said to be non-life threatening.

The two occupants of the home “were familiar with the victim who was shot” and are “cooperating with detectives,” according to Patalano’s statement.

“No other information will be released until the investigation has progressed further,” the statement continues.

A large police presence was seen outside the home following the police response, and Pontiac Avenue was blocked in both directions for a period of time.

The Herald will provide additional updates as they become available.
