Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop: Tools for Healthy Living
Thursdays, 9-11:30 a.m.Beginning Aug. 22, ending Sept. 26This free, six-session program for people 60 years of age or older will provide self-management tools to make a positive change in your life. Some topics to be addressed include dealing with frustration, isolation, pain and fatigue; exercises for improving flexibility and strength; and medications and nutrition. All participants will receive a workbook, as well as a relaxation CD and gift certificate upon successful completion of the program. Space is limited. To register, call 780-6000.
Arthritis exercise classes
This low-impact physical activity will help you keep your joints flexible and muscles strong, sleep better, increase energy and improve your overall outlook. It’s fun, and it’s free. Bring a friend. Registration is required by calling 780-6000.
Arthritis Foundation’s Walk With Ease Program
It’s fun! We begin with stretch exercises and then walk at our own pace. Bring a friend. Meet us at the track, or if you would like, transportation is available from the center. To register, call 780-6000. Step Up Challenge
Sponsor: Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode IslandThe Cranston Enrichment Center will be challenging other senior centers in the area. We will be competing against Coventry Senior Center, Pilgrim Senior Center and West Warwick Senior Center. The Step Up Challenge runs from Sept. 3-30. The center with the highest average steps over four weeks will receive $2,500 from BCBSRI. The top three winners at each center will also receive prizes.
To join the challenge, you must be a participant at the center and 55 years of age or older. Each person will receive a fitness tracker or a pedometer to record daily steps. Participants will report daily numbers on a weekly basis.
