NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

A Public Hearing on the following proposed Ordinances will be held before the Ordinance Committee on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 7:00 p.m., City Council Chambers, 869 Park Avenue, Cranston, R.I. pursuant to Section 3.12 of the Charter.

Complete copies of proposed Ordinances are available for public review at the City Clerk’s Office, and the Cranston Central Library and the City’s website cranstonri.com under calendar by clicking on the meeting date.

“Individuals requesting interpreter services for the dear or hard of hearing must notify the City Clerk’s Office at 461-1000 ext. 3197 seventy-two (72) hours in advance of the hearing date.”

PROPOSED ORDINANCE NO. 3-18-04 IN AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 2.40.020 OF TITLE 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CRANSTON, 2005, ENTITLED “ADMINISTRATION AND PERSONNEL” (MUNICIPAL COURT) (Judicial Code of Ethics)

It is ordained by the City Council of the City of Cranston as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 2.40.020 of the Code of the City of Cranston entitled “Appointment, Term and Qualification of Judge of Municipal Court and Probate Court“ is hereby amended by adding thereto the following:

D. A judge shall not appear at a public hearing before, or otherwise consult with, a Cranston executive or Cranston legislative body or Cranston official except on matters concerning the law, the legal system or the administration of justice or except when acting pro se in a matter involving the judge or the judge’s interests. A judge shall also not appear at a public hearing before, or otherwise consult with, an executive or legislative body or official except on matters concerning the law, the legal system or the administration of justice, or except when acting pro se in a matter involving the judge or the judge’s interests, or a matter that does not involve Cranston.

E. All judges shall not

a. act as a leader or hold an office in a political organization,

b. publicly endorse or publicly oppose a candidate for office,

c. make speeches on behalf of a political organization.

Section 2. This Ordinance shall take effect upon its final adoption.

PROPOSED ORDINANCE NO. 3-18-05 IN AMENDMENT OF AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO ENTER INTO A LEASE AGREEMENT WITH THE HOPE ALZHEIMER’S CENTER

It is ordained by the City Council of the City of Cranston as follows:

SECTION 1. The Mayor of the City of Cranston desires to enter into a Lease Agreement with the Hope Alzheimer Center with respect to City property, specifically located at 25 Brayton Avenue, Cranston, RI. The City Council of the City of Cranston hereby authorized, approves, confirms, and ratifies the aforementioned and attached Lease Agreement.

Section 2. This Ordinance shall take effect upon its final adoption.
