On Jan. 7, a crowded audience at Cranston High School East enjoyed the sights and sounds of the Combined and Advanced Orchestras from Park View and Bain middle schools. The event was called “Winter 2020 Strings Concert.”
“This was our first annual combined ‘Eastside’ Middle Schools Winter Orchestra Concert,” said Sara Weir, the orchestra director. “Our sixth-grade beginner orchestra classes performed six pieces together ranging from easy and in unison to harder and in four parts. Hugh B. Bain's Advanced Orchestra performed two tremendous pieces incorporating exciting rhythms and new keys.”
The Park View Advanced Orchestra joined Bain on stage and performed “Burgundian Carol.” Park View finished the night with two fantastic pieces, including a lively version of “Can-Can.”
Weir is the orchestra director at both schools. She has been at Bain for the last four years, and this is her first year at Park View. Bain has its sights on the RIMEA Festival, and Park View is looking ahead towards the High Note Music Festival in Bristol, Connecticut.
