The Oaklawn Grange, a non-profit organization formed in 1909, celebrated its first ever jack-o-lantern display on Sunday, October 22. With the goal of giving local children a place to show off their pumpkin carving skills, kids and their families were invited to display their home-carved jack-o-lanterns. Providing electric lights for each pumpkin, when night fell all the jack-o-lanterns were brought to life and lit up for all to see.
Long ago the Grange began as an agricultural organization that has since, as the number of farms in the city and state dwindled, transitioned to more community based charity work. With an event space on Searle Avenue that can be rented, the Grange throws events throughout the year that lead to donations to a variety of other non-profits and the work they do to make the city a better place.
