Like many things, this comes down to those who believe government knows best vs. those who believe they know what is in the best interest of themselves and their families. From the option to partially privatize (or participate in) social security, to school choice, to church attendance, statists believe They Know Best. You will obey. And you will like it! Of course, this all requires a poorly informed electorate. Look for a bill in the GA to change the state motto to: "Keep them dumb, dependent, and grateful". Rhode Island: This is what you voted for.
