To the Editor:
How ironic that on one page of today’s (September 7) Warwick Beacon there is an article where a resident is objecting to having a police officer present during City Council meetings and, just a few pages later, another resident is urging a police officer presence to instill a sense of safety and security for all in our schools.
Taking these positions together, is Mr. Cote suggesting a policy where only our children should have a sense of safety and security in public functions? Or is Mr. Colgan suggesting that a uniformed presence at schools is intended to bully and intimidate our kids? Probably neither is intended.
I suggest we should work hard as a community to create safe space, both in perception and reality, whether for adults at the city, Council meetings, or for kids in the schools.
