The Rhode Island Interscholastic League Indoor Track and Field Girls Division Championships were held last weekend in Providence and many locals shined as they continue to gear up for the home stretch this winter season, with the class and state championships nearing in the coming weeks.
Cranston West took fourth in the Bayha Division, followed by Toll Gate in seventh and Pilgrim in ninth. Here are some of the results from the afternoon:
Cranston West state champ Ailani Sutherland placed first in the 55 dash while teammate Quianna Pezza won the long jump for the Falcons.
Sutherland finished second in the 300 dash, while West’s Reece Vitale placed second in the 55 hurdles. Vitale later finished fourth in the long jump.
Pezza finished fifth in the 55 dash for the Falcons while teammate Amelya D’Errico took fifth in the 300 dash.
Julia Saccocio finished seventh in the 300 dash for West, while D’Errico took eighth in the 55 dash.
West’s Antonia King finished ninth in the 55 hurdles while Stalia Biosse took 10th in the 300 dash.
Keaney Bayha won the 1,000 run and the 1,500 run for Pilgrim
Alison Pankowicz finished second in the 1,500 run for Toll Gate and also third in the 1,000 run.
Toll Gate’s Vanessa Jones placed second in the weight throw and third in the shot put.
