To the Editor,
As I lay in my warm cozy bed under many layers of blankets, I can see from my window all the dog walkers come by.
Regardless of the weather conditions, they are out there early morning (It is usually around six or a little later), dressed in layers of winter apparel to fend off the cold. No matter if it is raining, windy or snowing these people are out there. I see my neighbor with her dog and his little coat (not so little, as he is a big dog), getting his walk in before she leaves for work.
Yes, these people are not slackers, where their dogs are concerned. There is an elderly woman I have befriended who later in the day wheels her deaf, blind dog in a baby stroller so he can get some air. I don’t have a dog and wonder if I could get myself out of a warm bed to go into the cold. Did I mention I hate winter, cold, snow and wind? Also I dedicate this ode also to all of you who faithfully take the time to walk dogs at our shelter. For some of these dogs this is the best part of their day. Yes this letter is to praise all of you.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the other side of this coin. To the person or persons who dumped a dead Huskie in City Park, make no mistake this praise is not for you. All dog owners I am sure are appalled at this behavior and should work as one to see this person or persons prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
To conclude, dog walkers continue to be my early morning enjoyment. February is almost gone and hopefully better weather is coming for you to enjoy this precious time with your dogs.
