Marion (Lemlin) Lampke-Stella, A Fearless Fighter and Beloved Cranstonite
Cranston, RI - Marion Lampke-Stella, a resilient and beloved member of the community, passed away on May 19, leaving behind a legacy of strength, love, and unwavering determination. Marion courageously battled and triumphed over non-Hodgkin's lymphoma twice within the past 15 years, inspiring all who knew her with her fearless spirit.
A lifelong Cranston resident, Marion was a force to be reckoned with. Even when cancer reappeared six months ago, Marion refused to let it define her. Instead, she chose to embrace life to the fullest, eschewing countless hospital stays and emergency room visits. In the weeks leading up to her final moments, Marion was surrounded by an outpouring of love and support from countless friends and family members, who eagerly scheduled visits to spend quality time with her.
Marion relished in simple yet meaningful moments during her last days. Whether it was reigning over yet another “SG” girls night, watching the Bruins, Celtics or Red Sox, basking in the refreshing Narragansett sea breeze, or warmly greeting her granddaughter as she stepped off the school bus, Marion cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. Mother's Day weekend was particularly special, as Marion took the time to get “fresh ends” and touch up her vibrant purple highlights, received a blessing from her cousin, Father Tim Lemlin, and enjoyed the bustling company of family members, including grandchildren who spent the night.
The last days of Marion's life were filled with the music of laughter, heartfelt stories, and the comforting presence of her closest cousins and sister, Kathleen. Marion's passing was a testament to her independent spirit and occurred exactly as she had lived her life—on her own terms. In her own room, Marion found solace, accompanied by the knowledge that her family members were close by, safe and sound.
Marion's love and legacy will forever live on through her children, Jason and Vanessa, and their spouses, Maria and Peter. Her grandchildren, Wrenano, Tommy, Candela, Eva, and Ivy Lou, will cherish the countless memories they shared with their Grandma. Marion's devoted sister, Kathleen, along with her nephew and niece, Sean and Heather, and their families, will forever remember her as the radiant light who always welcomed them with open arms.
Local sports events were never complete without Marion's passionate cheers. From local CLCF venues to renowned stadiums such as Fenway Park and TD Garden, Marion's enthusiastic support was never in doubt. Although her uncensored mutterings may have occasionally been overheard, they were a testament to her unwavering dedication to her favorite teams and athletes.
It was her home, however, and her ever-evolving garden, so carefully tended with her daughter, that best reflected Marion's pride and determination. Her own garden seamlessly blended with her neighbor Anna's, forming a deep bond that transcended the boundaries of their properties. Together, they cultivated a special hybrid plant named Maggie, and its offshoot, Ivy, symbolizing the eternal bond they formed.
Marion also cultivated her love of reading. Marion's involvement in a tightly-knit book club brought immense joy and enrichment to her life. For over 15 years, she hosted and attended gatherings with this extraordinary group of women—friends, sisters, daughters, and mothers. Her love of treasured books continued into her final days.
Finally, Marion's love for adventure led her on numerous trips to Spain, where she forged forever memories with her grandchildren and the Argüelles-Foix family. These journeys exposed Marion to new experiences, cultures, and strengthened the bonds between their families while bringing great joy and kindness to everyone she met.
Marion feared nothing and no one. She was a protector who stood up to all injustices she knew of, a nurturer of kindness and graciousness, she encouraged everyone to have high expectations of themselves, subtle with a word yet bold in a look, she will be remembered with love and respect.

In accordance with Marion's wishes, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 11:00am in St. Matthew Church Cranston. All re invited to attend.
