Louis A. Gomes, Jr., “Junior Gomes,” 79, a resident of Cranston for 30 years,  passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.  He was the beloved husband of Cathy (Carrier) Gomes for 52 years.  Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Louis, Sr. and Anna (Silva) Gomes. 

He served his country honorably as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea during the Vietnam Era.  Louis was employed by Narragansett Electric as a field representative for 40 years before retiring. 

Louis was a very well-liked and respected member of the community.  An accomplished musician, he was a successful pianist and played with numerous rhythm and blues, and jazz bands, both locally and throughout New England.  Louis was an avid sports fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Bishop Hendricken High School teams.  He enjoyed traveling with his wife and the Sweeney family to Las Vegas.  Louis loved spending time with his family, most especially his grandchildren. 

Louis was the loving father of Jamal M. Gomes (wife, Tara) and Thiago J. Gomes, PPD (wife, Carol); cherished grandfather of Madison, Avery, Shayne, Maxwell Gomes, and Morgan Viccione; caring brother of Eugene Gomes, Deborah Handy, Elizabeth Smith, Gus Gomes, Thiago Gomes, and the late Francis and Joseph Gomes.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  

The Gomes family would like to extend a special note of gratitude for all the well wishes and prayers; and to the nurses, doctors, and staff at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center. 

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 9 am from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10am in St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Ln., Warwick.  A graveside service will be in the RI Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.  Visiting hours, Tuesday, August 16, 2022 from 5-7pm.
