DUI

Around 2:20 a.m., Aug. 6, Warwick Police Officer Andrew J. Chretien was on routine patrol traveling west on East Avenue when he spotted a black Chevy Tahoe traveling east at a high rate of speed (clocked at 66 mph in a posted 40 mph zone).

Chretien made a U-turn, accelerating to take position behind the vehicle.

The vehicle had a temporary Florida tag, and the driver allegedly made several laned roadway violations while police were following.

After swerving over the line, Chretien initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Frawley Street. Police identified the driver as Kevin A. Harricharan, 37, of 18 Hazael St., Providence.

Chretien smelled alcohol on the driver and noted his bloodshot, watery eyes. The driver allegedly admitted to drinking.

Police asked Harricharan to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. He agreed.

Following the tests, Harricharan was placed under arrest and transported back to the Warwick Police Department. Police said he then consented to a chemical breath test, and blew a 0.171 BAC on the first sample, and a 0.166 on the second. He was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Liquor (0.15 BAC or greater). He was also cited for Speeding (1-10 mph over the posted speed limit) and Laned Roadway Violations.

DUI

Around 9:46 p.m., Aug. 13, Warwick Police were dispatched to the area of 1570 Warwick Ave. for the report of a black Chevy “swerving all over the roadway.”

Police found the vehicle at Hooters on Airport Road, and the male driver was standing outside the running vehicle.

“As officers approached the male he got back into his vehicle and exited the lot over the curb to travel west on Airport Road,” Warwick Police Officer Michael J. Rosa wrote in the arrest report.

The driver allegedly drove “at a low rate of speed, swerving and maneuvering form the left lane to the right lane without using its directional,” Rosa wrote.

The vehicle turned right onto Post Road and into the Burger King parking lot.

Police identified the driver as Alfredo Ortiz, 41, of 11 Hebdeen St., Johnston.

“After exiting the vehicle, I could detect the strong odor of alcohol beverages emanating form Ortiz’s breath as he responded to my questions in a mumbled manner,” Rosa wrote. “When asked why he had left the Hooter’s parking lot, Ortiz stated that he was never in the Hooter’s lot and that police were never behind him with their lights and sirens on.”

Ortiz was allegedly unsteady on his feet.

Police asked Ortiz to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. He refused.

The driver was placed under arrest and transported back to the Warwick Police Department. At the station, Ortiz also refused a chemical breath test.

He was charged with DUI (BAC unknown, first offense) and cited for Turn Signal Required, Due Care by Driver, and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test (first offense).

DUI

Around 6:18 p.m., Warwick Police were dispatched to 49 Ninigret St. for the report of a motor vehicle that had driven onto a caller’s lawn.

The caller told police that a black Nissan drove onto her lawn and struck the white Kia that was parked in the driveway. She told police that she came in contact with the male driver, who appeared “disoriented prior to attempting to leave the scene.”

However, as the suspect attempted to pull away, a Warwick police officer was able to conduct a motor vehicle stop and prevent the vehicle from leaving.

Police identified the driver as Erik Lima Sousa, 35, of 1208 Elmwood Ave., Providence.

Police asked Sousa to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. He agreed.

Following the tests, Sousa was placed under arrest and transported back to the Warwick Police Department. His vehicle was towed from the scene.

At the station, Sousa refused to take a chemical breath test.

He was charged with DUI (BAC unknown, first offense), and cited for Leaving the Lane of Travel, Due Care by Drivers, and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test (first offense).
