October, 2023 - Registration is now open for the 10th Annual Park View Middle School 5K Run/Walk event being held on November 11, 2023. This long-standing community event takes place at Roger Williams Park with the 5K run/walk beginning at 9:30 am and the 1K Kids Run beginning at 8:30 am. Prior to the start of the race, there will be a celebration of local veterans and organizers are looking for veterans to participate in the procession.
On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, an official kick-off event was held at the school, with a visit from Pete and Ron Card and from Operation Stand Down RI’s Executive Director and Attorney, Erik Wallin. The special guests spoke about the importance of the event and encouraged the student participation. This year’s event t-shirt was unveiled and a friendly competition was announced with the prize of a catered lunch for the grade with the largest registration numbers.
Organizer John Macera is looking forward to another great race and to recognizing local veterans.
“This community event is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our veterans and educate our current students on the importance of this special holiday. In addition, we are raising awareness and funds for Operation Stand Down, which is a local organization providing help to those who have served. On this our tenth anniversary we want to be able to recognize this important institution and offer assistance to the people that they serve.”
