Tabor-Franchi post wins multiple tournaments

The Tabor-Franchi Post over-75 softball team had a big 2023 season, which included wins at the Cape Cod Classic and Ocean State Classic in the AAA Division. The team is made up of local athletes that travel regionally to compete, some of who have been playing together for over a decade.

The team’s offense roared in the Cape Cod Classic, as Bob Pierce led team with .813 batting average. Five players batted at least .600 in Cape Cod while the team batted over .500. Tabor-Franchi finished the tournament with a perfect 6-0 record.

Most of the players also compete in other local leagues, including Friday and Wednesday mornings at Warwick City Park. Playing senior softball has allowed them to develop bonds both on and off the field.

“It keeps up going. We’ve developed a nice rapport,” said Tabor-Franchi general manager Jack Archibald. “We do the best we can. Luckily, we get to play against guys our own age, so we have done pretty well in these tournaments.”

In the offseason, members of the Tabor-Franchi squad continue to spend time together and gather for weekly Friday morning breakfasts as the Cozy Grill.

“We all in our 70s and most of us have been together since we were 65. Hopefully, we’ll all be together when we’re 85, too,” said Archibald.

Local members of the Tabor-Franchi team included:  Steve Aldrich (Warwick), Tom Fedo (Warwick), Dan Pisaturo (Warwick), Manager Sal Capirchio (Cranston), Mike Agresti (Warwick). Other members were: Roger Pincince, Joe DeResta, Roger LePage, Tony Mastrantuone, Tony Rozzero, Bob Pierce, Ron Dussault, Lee Southworth, Jerry DeMello, Donni Champagne and Jim McMahon.
