West girls take 2nd at track states

The Cranston West girls outdoor track & field team followed up its Class A championship win with another strong performance last week in Providence when it took home second place at the state championships. West Warwick finished first with 76 points while the Falcons recorded a score of 59.

On the boys side, the Barrington Eagles edged Hendricken to become the first public school to win the title since 2017 when Central won. The Eagles finished with 120 points versus Hendricken’s 108.50. Cranston West finished 10th place as a team.

Here are some of the results from the afternoon:


GIRLS

West’s relay team of Quiana Pezza, Amelya D’Errico, Stalia Biosse and Ailani Sutherland finished second in the 400. Pezza later placed second in the triple jump, while teammate Maia Riccio took second in the javelin.

Sutherland finished third in the 100 and 200 dashes for the Falcons. Reece Vitale finished fourth in the 100 and 300 hurdles for West, while Pezza placed fourth in the long jump.

D’Errico, Vitale, Sutherland and Julia Saccoccio took fifth in the 1,600 relay, while Vitale also placed fifth in the triple jump for West.

Keaney Bayha led Pilgrim by taking second in the 1,500 run and also finishing fourth in the 800 run. Vanessa Jones took fifth in the discus throw for Toll Gate.


BOYS

Alonso Parker-Sharpe led West with a second-place finish in the 100 and 200 dash.

Carson Dean won the pole vault for Hendricken while Brandon Wolfenden won the shot put for Pilgrim. Markus Sukkar finished first in the discus throw for Hendricken, while teammate Matt Giuliano finished first in the hammer throw. Hendricken’s Damon Buchanan finished first in the javelin.

Jacob Coates finished second in the 400 dash for Hendricken, while teammate Derek Goll took second in the hammer throw.

Joel Felix wrapped up third place in the 100 dash for Hendricken, while teammate Will Olsen took third in the 3,000 run.

Hendricken’s Jake Greene, Ollie Ide, Brayden Seraichyk and Fred Russell combined to finish third in the 3,200 relay. Teammate Michael Shah took third in the triple jump.

Hendricken’s relay team of Jeremy Seidi, Felix, Coates and Nathan Rivas placed fourth in the 400. Toll Gate’s relay team of Mason Tanner, Ryan Enos, Rhontahn Vega and Trevor DiPanni finished fourth in the 1,600. Hunter Schobel later took fourth in the long jump for the Pats as well as fifth in the triple jump.

Tristan Jordan took fifth for the Hawks in the 110 hurdles.
